The Story

We’re the Lynch’s, a husband-and-wife duo that love finding treasure in unexpected places. In the early years of our friendship, we would help each-other fix up pieces we found at local thrift store shops or large projects (like Ryan’s vintage F-250) and give them new life. Once we were married, we designed our home with thrift store projects and restored treasures we found on our adventures. This became a hobby which turned into a small business. Occasionally we would have friends reach out to us to find a table for the dining room or a restorative piece they could use in their home. We would work as a team to vision out what we would restore, or how we could decorate with an abstract set of mailboxes.

In early February of 2021 our lives took a unique twist. We felt like we were backed against a wall with particular life circumstances. We knew the Lord was in control of all things, but we struggled with how to move forward. One night Ryan returned home from a long day, and in the midst of the conversation he started to explain what he was reading in the Bible from Exodus 5. He compared our circumstances to that of the Israelites, having our straw taken away but still required to make the same number of bricks.

The story goes, Moses was instructed to lead the enslaved Israelites into the wilderness to worship the Lord. Moses asked permission from Pharaoh, Pharaoh’s response was to take away the straw that was needed to produce bricks. Even though the straw was no longer provided, the Israelite slaves were still mandated to produce the same and even more quota of bricks. The Israelites groaned and complained, but this was the first step of uncomfortably they were being brought into before they exited Egypt and began their process to the Promise Land.

This brings us to our name, and how the Lord was growing us and directing to a new destination. Within this month of trying circumstances, we decided to step out in faith and form Brick and Straw, to follow a passion and a family tradition in furniture retail. Whether it be custom projects, restoration, decorating or construction pieces, we feel blessed to be given opportunities to build and create. You will be finding us late into the night working in the garage with each other and of course our two golden doodles, Beacon and Rocky.
